Most of us don’t write out each email address that we send mail to. Instead, we rely on the mail software to keep track of the people we have previously emailed. The software keeps a list of these contacts and allows us to choose recipients from this list for future emails. Now that you have made the switch to Aggiemail, do you have to re-enter all of your contacts from Webmail? Not any more, thanks to the employees in the IT department. They have written a handy little script that moves your contacts into your new Aggiemail account. And it’s easy to use. What more could we want?
Note: USU has two mail systems, Aggiemail and Aggies. Aggiemail is for students, and Aggies is for faculty and staff . Keep in mind that these are two separate systems and are not interchangeable.

Note: Aggiemail is based on Google’s proprietary Gmail system. Your contacts list will be exported in a format that can be understood by the account type that you choose. This file will be a .csv (Comma-Separated Values) file --essentially, a list of data items separated by commas. |

| 4. | Next, you need to get the contacts from the .csv file into your new Aggiemail account.

| 5. | Click on the Contacts link on the left side of the window. The Contacts window opens: | |

|
| 7. | Click on the Browse button and locate your .csv file. Click Import Contacts and watch your contacts’ information appear in the Aggiemail Contacts window.
Note: Aggiemail/Gmail contacts have only three information fields: name, email address, and notes. Webmail and Outlook have many more fields. When Aggiemail imports these types of data, it dumps everything beyond name and address into the notes field. So if you have stored telephone numbers, snailmail addresses, children’s birthdays, etc., you will have to look in the notes field for this information. |
