  • Summer, 1961 IBM 1620, in the Applied Statistics Department located in Old Main.
  • 1964 IBM 1401 and a 1009 link to Western Data Procesing Center at UCLA supplements IBM 1620
  • 1966 Computer Center separated from the Applied Statistics Department and placed under the Vice President for Research
  • 1966 Dick Chappel becomes first Director of Computer Center
  • 1966 Honeywell 1200
  • August, 1967 IBM 360/44 replaces both the IBM 1620 and Honeywell 1200
  • April, 1969 Wendell L. Pope becomes Director of Computer Center and the Computer Center moves from Old Main to the Computer Science Building (later name was changed to Computer Center Building)
  • October, 1972 Burroughs B6700
  • September 1, 1977 Martell J. Gee becomes Director of Computer Center
  • January 9, 1980 Burroughs B6800 replaces B6700
  • February 6, 1981 DEC VAX 11/780 A begins to take over Academic and Research computing
  • July, 1981 IBM 4341 A takes over Administrative computing
  • July, 1981 Computer Center name officially changed to Office of Computer Services
  • April, 1982 VAX 11/780 B added
  • Sept 15, 1982 Burroughs B6800 removed
  • October, 1982 VAX 11/780 C added
  • January, 1984 VAX 11/780 D added
  • January, 1984 IBM 4341 CAD/CAM added
  • April, 1985 VAXes clustered together
  • January, 1986 Computer Solutions becomes the sales and repair branch of OCS
  • October 21, 1986 IBM 4381/P12 replaces IBM 4341A
  • December, 1986 VAX 8650 replaces four clustered VAX 11/780s and Machine room and Programming Staff move to new facilities in the new SER Building. The rest of the staff remain in the Computer Center Building.
  • November, 1987 Martell Gee takes leave of absence; Karl Fugal becomes Acting Director
  • December 31, 1987 Hilda Sansom retires after 31 1/2 years of service
  • November 1988 Martell Gee officially terminates
  • January 11, 1989 Karl Fugal named Director of Office of Computer Services
  • July 28, 1989 First fiber optic data transmission on campus (CC to SER)
  • June 7, 1991 VAX 6510VP replaces the VAX 8650
  • July 5, 1991 IBM 9121/190 replaces the IBM 4381-P12
  • September 9, 1991 Computer Services reports to the Dean of Learning Resources instead of Vice President for Research
  • July, 1992 Computer Services staff in south end of Computer Center Building move to SER building to make way for the building of the new Sci Tech Library.
  • August 22, 1993 Three DEC 3000/400s (RISC Alphas:Grumpy, Sleepy and Sneezy) at 39 Mips each form a VMS cluster and replace the VAX 6510.
  • August 22, 1993 IBM 9121/190 upgraded to an IBM 9121/210
  • March 29, 1994SDL moves to Research Park and vacates SER 301. Computer Services staff all move to SER 301. New Intecom Phone system on-line.
  • January 31, 1995 Ray Rawlins resigns after 23 years
  • January, 1996 48 additional modems added to Modem Pool for a total of 112.
  • March 18, 1996 IBM 9672/R12 replaces the IBM 9121/210
  • July 31, 1997 Learning Resources Program dissolved. Glenn Wilde resigns. Office of Computer Services reports to Provost Gogue temporarily with Byron Burnham acting as Interim Dean.
  • August 15, 1998 IBM 9672/R15 replaces IBM 9672/R12
  • December, 1998 A 184 line 56KB (ISDN) modem pool installed to replace old 14.4 & 28.8 KB devices
  • March 1, 1999 Barbara A. White named Dean of Information and Learning Resources and USU CIO
  • October 1, 1999 46 additional 56 KB (ISDN) modems installed for a total of 230
  • February 29, 2000 Karl Fugal retires after 33 years of service to the university, including 11 years as Director of the Office of Computer Services
  • March 1, 2000 Kim Marshall appointed Acting Director of the Office of Computer Services
  • July 1, 2001 Kim Marshall appointed Director of Information Technology (deaprtment name changed from Office of Compter Services)
  • July 1, 2003 Department name changed from Information Technology to Network & Computing Services (NCS)
  • July 1, 2004 Banner Finnance goes live
  • October 1, 2004 Barbara A. White resigns and accepts position as Associate Provost and CIO at University of Georgia
  • October 1, 2004 M. Kay Jeppesen is name Interim Vice President/Chief Information Officer (CIO)
  • April 11, 2005 Student Banner goes live
  • January 1,2006 HR/Payroll Banner goes live
  • April 10, 2006 M. Kay Jeppesen is named Vice President/CIO (no longer interim position)
