Telephone Equipment

STE-- STANDARD TELEPHONE EQUIPMENT

STE phones are installed on analog lines. They are the traditional style of phones and you may use the phone provided by Telecommunications or use your own phone. Because they are analog you may use an answering machine, however, it is recommended you use campus Voice Mail due to its many features.

Analog lines are also used for fax machines and computer modems. (You do not need an analog line and modem to connect to the campus network. Computers connect through a different dedicated jack that connects you with a hub and the network.)

ANNOUNCEMENT ON HOLD

Departments may have their own announcement on hold versus the music on hold, currently in place on the telephone system. Record your announcement on a cassete tape. Announcements can be up to six minutes in length. The cassete tape is sent to Telecommunications and is digitized into the equipment. The cassette tape becomes the backup in case of power outages. Announcements can be updated as needed by the department by recording and sending the cassette to Telecommunications.

The equipment must be purchased individually for each department requesting this feature. Allow 4 - 6 weeks from date of request for the equipment to arrive and programming to be completed. Call our help desk at 73335
