Information Technology Help Desk provides a FULL service hardware repair facility to assist students, staff and faculty with computing needs. the Service Desk is a Dell Certified Repair and Warranty Service Center. We will also work with other computer vendors to provide the highest level of service available.
Personally owned computers of Students, Staff & Faculty are entitled to a free 30 minutes of service / diagnostics. In the case additional time is needed to fix a problem notice will be given to the responsible party with an estimate of the time and charges that will be incurred. No work will commence until permission to proceed is received. There is no charge for work done on Dell computers that are currently under warranty. Hourly rates for Help Desk Repair are $20.00 per hour charged on a ½ hour basis. Flat fees for specific repairs may also apply. See the rate chart for more information.
University owned computers may also receive repair work, although there is no ½ free. Charges for University owned computers begin at the time the technician begins working and ends when the problem is resolved. There is no charge for work done on Dell computers that are currently under warranty. A University computer is any computer that contains a University inventory label on it.
Surplus Sales computers: Any computer purchased from USU Surplus Sales will not qualify for the free ½ or service but may be serviced by the Service Desk at the standard rate.
The average turn around time for computer repair is 3 business days. During early Fall and Spring Semesters when demand is greater repair turn around time may be increased.
Data Recovery is also provided by the Service Desk. If you have lost or corrupted data please contact the Service Desk for assistance in attempting to recover your data.
