USU Modem Pool end-of-life: July 1, 2007
The USU modem pool usage has been steadily declining with the availabilty of affordable, ubiquitous internet access in the home and business while access to the USU modem pool has presented greater security risk to the system as a whole. Limited bandwidth available via dial-up discourages users from taking the significant time to download critical security patches and updates which places the USU network and computing infrastructure at risk from such machines regularly dialing directly into the internal network. As a result over the next few months USU will be phasing out the modem pool and eliminating dial-up access into the Logan campus data network. The modem pool was turned off July 1, 2007.
