Port Disabled

If Your Port Has Been Disabled

  1. Verify that your data port has been disabled.
  2. Find out why your data port was disabled. You will find the reason your port was disabled on the disabled list under the column titled "Reason for Action." If you have questions, call the Service Desk at 435-797-HELP (4357).
  3. Take action to correct the problem
Ports can be disabled for a variety of reasons. The two most common reasons are viruses and hackers.
    • Virus - If your port was disabled because of a virus, you will need to remove the virus and install an anti-virus program (ex. McAfee) with the latest virus definitions. Also make sure your computer has the latest operating system patches and updates.     • Hacked - If your data port was disabled because it was "hacked" or "compromised," you will need to re-format your hard drive and re-install your operating system. If you need help contact the Service Desk at 435-797-HELP (4357).
4. Pay the fee and get the data port re-enabled. Once the problem has been resolved and you are ready to have the your data port re-enabled, visit: http://disabled.usu.edu/pay_enable.phpand follow the instructions. When you complete the payment form and click on "Submit" your request will be submitted for re-activation. If you want a static IP address, you will need to submit your request at http://it.usu.edu/htm/it-professonals/ip.

 

Data Port Re-activation Fee

    • $25 the first time your port is disabled
    • $50 thereafter

Note: Resolve the problems and make sure your computer is ready to be re-connected to the network. If your computer is re-enabled and the same or other problems are detected, the port will be disabled again and you will have to pay another reconnect fee to have it re-enabled.
