Information Technology has increased wireless network coverage on campus. Wireless coverage now extends to 100% of campus, including USU Housing. Extension sites will be coming online soon! Connecting to the wireless network requires a few simple steps. Below is an explanation of each and who they are intended to serve, along with steps to make your connecting easier. Before You Begin: Determine the wireless network ID (SSID) you should connect through. Descriptions of who each network is intended to service is listed below.
The BLUEZONE wireless network is intended to serve faculty, staff & students who use the wireless network on a regular basis. To use the BLUEZONE wireless network you must register your computer's Ethernet card using the the following steps.
Step 1: Obtain your computer's wireless Ethernet (Physical) address:
- Click "Start", then "Run"
- In the "Run" window type "CMD" (without the quotes)
- This will open a DOS window.
At the prompt type "IPCONFIG / ALL" (without the quotes)
- Write down the "Physical Address" shown in the window.
This should be a 12 character hexidecimal number such as:
00-4c-db-1c-c7-b7
Step 2: Register your Ethernet (Physical) address by visiting:
https://barney.usu.edu/cgi-bin/mobile
Registration is processed 10 minutes past each hour.
The BLUEZONE-GUEST wireless network is intended for guests visiting the USU's campus. This wireless network requires a registration code be entered each day you want to use the BLUEZONE-GUEST wireless network. The code entered is different each day of the week. To obtain a code contact the Information Technology Service Desk / Help Desk at 797-HELP (4357).
If you will be on campus multiple days please request the codes for each of the days you will be on campus.
Step 1: Obtain the BLUEZONE-GUEST wireless code for the date you desire to use the USU network.
Step 2: Enable Pop-up blockers for your web browser.
You will not be able to enter the wireless code with a Pop-up Blocker "enabled".
Step 3: Start a web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc...)
Step 4: A small Pop-up window will appear.
Enter that days code into the Pop-up window.
The Pop-up window must remain open when to have Internet Access.
