VPN Configuration on Windows Vista

Click the Start Button and select Control Panel

On the left side of the window make sure Classic View is selected

Double-Click on the Network and Sharing Center

On the left side of the window select Setup a connection or network

In the connection setup window scroll down and select Connect to a workplace then click Next

Now choose Use my Internet connection (VPN)

Enter "vpn.usu.edu" as the Internet address.

Enter USU VPN as the Destination name.

Put a check by, "Don't connect now;..."

Click Next

Enter your A number as the User name and your Banner Pin as the Password

Click Create then click Close (do NOT connect yet)

In the Network and Sharing Center click on the Connect to a network (on the left side)

Now, Right Click on the USU VPN connection and choose Properties (you might have to scroll to find the VPN connections)

Select the Networking tab at the top of the properties box

Under Type of VPN: choose L2TP IPsec VPN

Click on IPsec Settings... choose the option to Use preshared key for authentication

Enter "aggies" as the preshared key and then click OK and then OK again to close the properties box.

Now double-click on the USU VPN connection to connect to the VPN

You should now be connected!

(if a window pops up asking if the network is a Home, Work, or Public network just choose Public)

 

*If you have a Connect To option on your start menu,  you can click on it and then choose the USU VPN whenever you need to connect to the VPN. Otherwise you can open the Network and Sharing Center and choose Connect to a network.
