Physical Infrastructure

What We Do

IT's Physical Infrastructure (PI) team engineers understand the unique nature of USU's computing and communication needs, and as such, provide the foundation for reliable IT operations. The PI team provides the following services for the campus community:

  • Aggie Television Installations

Aggie television is Utah State University's private cable system and the PI team performs the installations. In addition to many standard channels, Aggie TV offers HBO package options for campus departments.

  • Cable and Wiring Services

From individual offices to large construction projects, the PI team completes fiber optic and copper cabling projects for voice, data, cellular and wireless deployment, changes and expansions. The PI team also makes emergency calls for accidental cable cuts.

  • Camera Installations

As the need for security increases, the PI team is on hand to install CCTV security cameras. CCTV security cameras are equipped with the latest digital video surveillance technology which allows USU departments and auxiliary services to remotely observe and monitor traffic. The PI team also performs special circuit installations for fire and security alarms.

  • Data Activation Services

If a data/voice jack is not available for your desired location, the PI team will quickly install and activate one for you. To improve services for telecom and data customers, Information Technology streamlined the service request process. To request a new voice/data jack or activation of an existing jack, just complete and submit the form at it.usu.edu/htm/communications/telecom-request-form.

  • Server Hosting Services (Physical and Virtual)

Physical hosting services include IT provided rack space, UPS, cooling, network port, cable and remote KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) control for department servers. The data center's advanced technology environment provides security, service continuity and power protection. The data center is monitored 24*7*365 by automated systems and access is controlled by two-tier authentication. With virtual hosting, departments can have servers up-and-running within 24 hours. Both hosting service types (physical and virtual) result in cost savings for departments.

  • Telephone Services

From the initial setup and template changes to voice mail installation, long distance authorization, calling cards and equipment repair, the PI team provides telephone services to USU departments and on-campus student housing. Please complete and submit  the form at it.usu.edu/htm/communications/telecom-request-form.

  • Wireless Infrastructure Implementation

A wireless network allows USU to reach and serve more people and the PI team is instrumental in its implementation. Although all campus buildings are engineered for wireless access, there remain dead zones in some buildings. If your wireless connection isn't working, let the PI team help you.
