Custom Programming

The Programming and Design (PAD) team specializes in building custom web applications and solutions for various University-related departments and organizations.

Services

Custom Web Applications

All you need to run a custom web application is a computer and a browser. They run anywhere the internet does and don't require installation. They are often created to make paper processes more efficient online, but they can also come from an idea for something that could be useful online.
.
If you have a need or idea for a custom web application, our programmers can work with you to build something custom to your needs. To discuss custom projects and receive a pricing quote, contact pad@usu.edu or call 435.797.8551.

Below are some examples of our recently-built custom web applications:

.
.

Protis

Protis is an online protocol tracking software that allows researchers to submit applications online for review.

Voting Application

The voting application was built as an online ballot for students to vote for their officers. It has been adapted for use in other organizations and purposes.

TreeBrowser

TreeBrowser is an online database for tree identification where you can search for trees based on their characteristics.

PowerPay

PowerPay is an online financial calculator to help people make plans to pay off their debts faster.

ezForms

ezForms was originally built for students to submit scholarship applications online. It has since been modified for other purposes and organizations.

e-Commerce

Online Payment System

e-Commerce is an online payment system. This system accepts credit cards and USU OCC numbers, and is available to all University organizations.
.
All online USU OCC transactions will be handled through a campus web service. OCC transactions are posted through the campus Blackboard Transact system to USU Banner nightly. The web service verifies that the person making the purchase is an employee of USU and that the OCC number is active.

e-Commerce FAQ

How much does it cost?
Who can use this?

Any USU entity needing to collect online payments.

Is it safe?

Yes. All credit cards are processed using the TouchNet Marketplace System. TouchNet complies with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and Payment Application - Data Security Standard (PA-DSS). You may read more from TouchNet's site. You may also read more about PA-DSS at this link: www.pcisecuritystandards.org/security_standards/pa_dss.shtml.

All USU OCC transactions are completed using secure servers on the USU campus.

Do I need my own website?

In order to use the USU e-Commerce solution you will need to either have your own web site or have a web site in ezPlug. ezPlug users will be able to accept online payments via a plugin. The e-Commerce rates will still apply, however. USU IT also has a shopping cart solution in place using Cartweaver (http://cartweaver.com). To see an example of the shopping cart please visit the Aggie Ice Cream web site or software.usu.edu.

What credit cards are accepted?

Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards are accepted. For your information the credit card service fee has been averaged to 2.5%. If you have additional questions regarding this service fee please contact the USU Controllers office.

Are my e-Commerce and Banner accounts related?

The e-Commerce solution is integrated with Banner. Each transaction will be entered into Banner and will show up on all financial reports. Credit card transactions will be fed directly into Banner. Please be aware that this may take up to a day to show in Banner. USU OCC payments will be batch processed nightly. This means that the actual dollar amount will not show in banner and on financial reports until the day following the transaction.

Does IT offer e-Commerce hosting?

An e-Commerce plugin is available for ezPlug users. The plugin allows for basic form creation in order to accept online payments by credit card or USU OCC. USU IT has a shopping cart solution in place using Cartweaver (http://cartweaver.com). To see an example of the shopping cart please visit the Aggie Ice Cream web site or software.usu.edu.
