IRS Phone Scams

Tis the season for IRS scams and they can come in email or by phone.

Here is a recent phone scam message.  The computer generated voice reads a threat of law suit with no details at all.  The scammer wants a call-back from the intimidated recipient:

Hello, we have been trying to reach you.  This automated message should be considered as final notice from IRS Internal Revenue Service.  The reason of [sic] this call is to inform you that IRS is filing law suit against you so to get more information about this case file please call back on to 02 241 2968. I repeat 02 241 2968. Thank you.

And a typical IRS scam email:

The "Get Started" link can be examined with the Skeptical Hover Technique to confirm that it doesn't really go to IRS.GOV.

This is what the IRS has to say in warning at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Dirty-Dozen-Tax-Scams :
"[T]he IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels."
