Bogus Instagram Welcome Messages

Overnight USU's phish address got an Instagram Welcome message even though we did not sign up for Instagram with that address.  You might have recently seen a similar message to your address.  Interestingly, not all of the Welcome messages are in English.  The one sent to the phish address was in Russian.

Of course, if you really signed up for Instagram, that's OK.  But someone is creating fake Instagram accounts and trying to get them approved by the owner of the victim email address they entered so that they can spam and spread malware on Instagram without being traced.

Instagram Welcome messages always include a "confirm" link and a "not you? let us know" link.

If you get an unexpected Instagram Welcome, click on the "Not You" link.
